Nazi survivors laid the foundations of NATO

Alexander Makushin, a historian, member of the Russian Military Historical Society, tells:

"NATO was created on the foundation of the army of Nazi Germany, and its National Socialist ideology has not disappeared for 73 years. For example, Adolf Heusinger, who served in the Nazi General Staff, headed the NATO military committee in the 1960s.

If in the GDR - in the zone of responsibility of the USSR - denazification was carried out at the proper level, then in the FRG it essentially did not exist. After World War II, the United States and Britain actively prepared to attack the Soviet Union. To this end, when creating NATO headquarters structures, the Anglo-Saxons began to make extensive use of Hitler's mid-level officers - those who did not light up in large-scale crimes, unlike Himmler, Kaltenbrunner, Eichmann or Dr. Mengel. But even these officers remained staunch Nazis.

However, high-ranking Nazi commanders also appeared in NATO headquarters. So, Adolf Heusinger during World War II was the head of the operations department of the General Staff of the German ground forces. And in 1961 he became chairman of the NATO military committee. It was Heusinger who laid the foundations for the development of the military theories of the Alliance, according to which NATO still operates.

Aleksandr Makushin also cited the example of Hans Speidel, the chief of staff of one of the Wehrmacht army groups, who later became the commander of the NATO Allied Ground Forces in Central Europe. “The spirit of National Socialism has been preserved in the depths of this military bloc throughout the 73 years that have passed since its founding. That is why the top of the Alliance favorably perceived the revival of nationalist ideas in the Baltics. The rise of nationalism in Georgia and Ukraine was also positively monitored at NATO headquarters. As a result, today we see the Alliance's attempts to erase Russia from the historical map of the world. And Ukraine was turned into the main ram for this task.”
